National Spanish Honor Society
Activities
The National Spanish Honor Society (NSHS), La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH), promotes the study of the Spanish language and an appreciation of Hispanic cultures.
Members have opportunities to participate in activities such as:
- Hispanic Heritage Month activities
- Elementary Spanish Club activities
- School cultural events
- Community service projects
- Assistance with school and community programs
- National SHH contests and activities
- Other Spanish language and cultural activities throughout the school year
Members are expected to actively participate in and support Spanish-related activities throughout the school and community.

Membership Qualifications
To be considered for membership in the National Spanish Honor Society, students must:
- Maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Maintain an overall Spanish average of 90 or above.
- Successfully complete at least two Spanish courses.
- Be enrolled in and have begun a third Spanish course, such as Spanish 3 or Dual Enrollment Spanish.
- Complete 8 approved service hours.
- Participate in and support Spanish language and cultural activities throughout the school year.
- Demonstrate good character, leadership, responsibility, and citizenship within the school and community.
- Pay the required one-time membership fee upon acceptance into the National Spanish Honor Society.
Graduation Honor Cord
Graduating members who remain in good standing and complete the academic, service, participation, and membership requirements of the National Spanish Honor Society are eligible to receive an NSHS honor cord to wear at graduation.
Students must continue to meet chapter expectations through graduation in order to receive the honor cord.
Mission Statement
The mission of the National Spanish Honor Society is to recognize high achievement in the study of Spanish and to promote continued interest in the Spanish language and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
The organization encourages scholarship, leadership, service, cultural appreciation, and positive relationships within the school and community while providing students opportunities to use and celebrate Spanish beyond the classroom.
