WHEN SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED
  • During the school day and school-related events and activities, the Athens High School shelter serves the students, faculty, and staff at Athens High School and WILL NOT be open to the public.
  • In the event a tornado watch is issued for Limestone County outside of the school day or school related events and activities, Athens High School may open the shelter, when possible. If the shelter will be open to the public, a notification will be posted at the top of this page as well as on the  ACS Facebook and ACS Instagram.
  • Please remember that the Athens High School Shelter is not an official EMA shelter. Visit the Limestone County Emergency Management Agency Community Shelter page for a list of official EMA shelters in the area.
SAFE ROOM RULES (STRICTLY ENFORCED)
  • No firearms or weapons permitted.
  • No smoking or vaping allowed.
  • No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed.
  • No pets allowed, with the exception of Service Animals.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Be respectful of others.
  • The shelter will close at the conclusion of the tornado watch.
ABOUT THE SAFE ROOM

The Athens High School safe room has the capacity to hold 1,500 people. The safe room is equipped with first aid kits, restrooms, a water fountain and a television.  

SHELTER ENTRANCE
Athens High School is located at 655 U.S. Highway 31 North. The entrance to the shelter is on the southeast side of the building. The shelter entrance door faces east and enters directly into the shelter.
