ATHENS CITY SCHOOLS WILL POST ON THE ACS FACEBOOK PAGE IF THE STORM SHELTER WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

WHEN SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED

During the school day and school related events and activities, the Athens High School shelter serves the students, faculty and staff at Athens High School and WILL NOT be open to the public. In the event a tornado watch is issued for Limestone County outside of the school day or school related events and activities, Athens High School may open the shelter, when possible.  If the shelter will be open to the public, a notification will be posted to the ACS Facebook Page.  Please remember that the Athens High School Shelter is not an official EMA shelter. Click HERE for a list of official shelters and safe rooms in Limestone County.

SAFE ROOM RULES (STRICTLY ENFORCED)

  • No fire arms or weapons permitted.
  • No smoking or vaping allowed.
  • No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed.
  • No outside food or drinks allowed.
  • No pets allowed, with the exception of Service Animals.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Be respectful of others.

ABOUT THE SAFE ROOM The Athens  High School safe room has the capacity to hold 1,500 people. The safe room is equipped with first aid kits, therapy kits, restrooms, a water fountain and a television.
